Why Politics Matter

Why Politics Matter
to God

Politics is often viewed as a realm separate from matters of faith, but the truth is, the two are deeply interconnected. At The Timmy Thom Show, we believe that understanding the significance of politics from a spiritual perspective is crucial for navigating the complexities of our world. Here’s why politics matter to God:

Throughout the Bible, God's concern for justice and compassion is evident. From the Old Testament prophets speaking out against oppression to Jesus' teachings on caring for the marginalized, the call to pursue justice and compassion is central to the Christian faith. Politics provides a framework for addressing the widespread injustices and advocating for policies that uplift the most vulnerable in society.

As stewards of God's creation, we are called to care for our world, the people in it, and steward our God given resources wisely and humbly. Romans 13 outlines how government and politics have been instituted by God for the good of creation and a servant to those under their authority. By engaging in politics, we can properly serve and care for all that God has entrusted us with; from nature to man politics provides an organized framework for ministering on a grand scale God’s way.

Jesus' command us to love our neighbors as ourselves extends to all aspects of life, including politics. Engaging in politics provides an opportunity to advocate for policies that promote the well-being and flourishing of all people, and provides guidance how America can be good neighbors to other countries. The Bible repeatedly commands us to care for the orphan, the widow, the foreigner, and the poor. We are also commanded to do this as both individuals and as a nation.

As peacemakers, Christians are called to work towards reconciliation and peace in a world marred by conflict and division. Politics plays a crucial role in promoting peace both domestically and internationally. By advocating for diplomacy, conflict resolution, and policies that address the root causes of violence, we can work towards building a more just and peaceful world, reflecting God's desire for shalom.

Ultimately, our engagement in politics is an expression of our commitment to living out the values of God's kingdom here on earth. While politics may be messy and imperfect, our faith calls us to be agents of transformation, working towards the realization of God's kingdom of justice, mercy, and love. By bringing our faith into the political arena, we have the opportunity to be salt and light, making a difference in the world for the glory of God.
